Summer means a burning desire, a light-hearted feeling, an optimistic sense of youth. No constraints, no obligations, no strings attached.

For his new SS 2018 collection, Andrea Pompilio boards a one-way flight to sun-kissed physical and sentimental territories. With him, a wacky boys squad eager for fun times. Like if they packed hastily and took the first plane after work, their look is a playful clash of on-duty/off-duty uniforms: the classic AP suit goes on 70’s-flavoured crew neck t-shirts and bowling shirts, wide sartorial pants are worn high-waist with stripy sailor tops.

Urban, formal wear staples are matched with laid-back pieces, contradictions are harmonized with nonchalant attitude. That’s what summer is all about: soft-core days and hard-core nights, slowing down and moving fast, taking time and living the life.

Sharply cut or slightly boxy, two-button and three-button jackets create upbeat tailored outfits, delivered in elegant checks or refreshed in vibrant madras. Harrington jackets are ultra-fancy, finished with superior details: contrasting shoulders come in luxe nylon, the brand’s label gets plastic coated and applied on the outside, summoning workwear patches.

Sleek styles reference preppy dressing, loose silhouettes call for a relaxed vibe, a display of poolside carelessness: raw cut sweatshirts on tennis-style bermudas, cropped knits on fuss-free denim. Impressed on jersey, ‘HEAVEN’ and ‘AVAILABLE’ make for recurring seasonal slogans, ecstatic and a little cheeky.

As they embrace a bohemian aesthetic, ethnic touches spring up everywhere. Mixing is key, identities reshape as elements collide. Recalling native techniques, handmade thread embroidery looks 3-dimensional and almost unfinished, jacquard knitwear is sewn inside out to achieve a rough, tactile quality. Exotic safari prints are found on sweats, jackets and shirts, Peruvian patterns on mid-calf socks.

The ‘quintessentially Pompilio’ two-coloured loafer alternates with chunky basketball sneakers, graced by eccentric Navajo fringes. Worn throughout, suede necklaces adorned with vibrant stones, medals and Murano glass beads.

Any good trip deserves its own soundtrack. To blend all the ingredients, a sprinkle of 90’s funk: sport striped pants and track jackets, zipped shirts, Jamiroquai bucket hats.
