Nowadays, in our casual life, we know supermodels as some unachievable kind of perfection and beauty. We want to look, be and act like them. Since supermodels are the most lucrative women, this career seems even more exciting. Supermodels refer to the models, which earn millions of dollars, are on the world’s best fashion magazines covers, works with top designers and best campaigns. According Claudia Schiffer, “In order to become a supermodel one must be on all the covers all over the world at the same time so that people can recognize the girls”. The term “supermodel” came into daylight in 1990’s, but also before there were some models, which were considered to be extraordinary. To be the world’s first supermodel title belongs to Lisa Fonssagrives. She was in biggest part of fashion magazines and general magazines from the 1930’s to the 1950’s. Dorian Leigh and Gia Carangi were also sharing same title. In 1970’s some models became more appreciable and they names become more recognizable to general public and it is started to print they names by their photos. Name recognition was a symbol of supermodel status and those girls could conquer the world. In 1980-1990 five girls: Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford and Tatjana Patitz almost did that. It was Linda, who said “I don’t wake up for less than $10.000 a day”, because they got multi-million dollar contracts, there was no campaign or designer, who didn’t want them and in 1990s, Peter Lindbergh gathered them together for British Vogue cover. Supermodel career still has an enormous demand, because everybody wants the fame and recognition. The most successful supermodel of all times is considered Gisele Bundchen. She is known as most earning supermodel since 2004, Anna Wintour called her “model of the millennium”, she causes absolute obsession in fashion world, and is listed as one of the world’s most sexy, beautiful, wealthy and powerful women. What follows is that now supermodels became not only profession, but almost become a brand, an absolute desire, which is wanted by everyone.
