On Thursday, January, 7 pm the CAC Reading Room in Vilnius invites you to the readings by Belgian artists Michael Van den Abeele.

Michael Van den Abeele will read a selection of short texts from the book “Forked Apologies”, which gathers twenty-three texts he wrote on invitation by fellow artists and architects in the course of the last ten years. In fiction or description, these texts cover a variety of applied writing in the context of art and architecture. The texts are accompanied by clear-line drawings he made of the concerned work or exhibitions.

A substantial share of these texts can be allocated to the Etablissement d’en face exhibition space in Brussels, but many of the concerned artists also have roamed in the surroundings of Vilnius and the CAC (a.o: Danai Anesiadou, Michel Auder, Jos de Gruyter & Harald Thys, Daniel Dewar and Grégory Gicquel, Valentinas Klimašauskas, Steinar Haga Kristensen, Shelly Nadashi, Jennifer Teets, Peter Wächtler).

The artist will read these texts in combination with a slide-show presentation of beds that he had been drawing over the course of the last years: little sketches, like notes. Every bed is like a day, a structuring container: Monday another word for Tuesday and the collectivity of the bed designs, in its generic variety, feels like an agenda. Intuitively, den Abeele connects them to his writing and sees them as stanzas, which is the Italian for room, as well as the verses in a poem.

Michael Van den Abeele (b. 1974) is a Brussels-based artist whose practice combines painting, furniture pieces, installations and writing. He is also a member of the Brussels based exhibition-space “Etablissement d’en face”. Recent exhibitions include “We already exist” at Gaudel de Stampa, Paris, France; “P P P Punctual” at Galerie Levy Delval, Brussels; “Relax”, Galerie Trampoline Antwerp, Belgium, “Words aren’t the thing”, CAC Vilnius; “Opacity Please”, Museum Leuven, Belgium. Currently he is participating in the Chicago biennial in collaboration with Peter Wächtler and the architecture collective Office Kersten Geers David Van Severen. He recently published “Forked Apologies” with FOREST publications. Michael Van den Abeele teaches at the Académie de Beaux-Arts in Paris.
