In Valentino Fall/Winter collection 13/14, couturiers Maria Grazia Chiuri and  Pierpaolo Piccioli really surprised us in a pleasant way. “In a cabinet of curiosities, the pieces are very unique, very one of a kind”, Piccioli said, because haute couture collection was not only special, but also unexpected. The designers emphasized that couture is not only for ceremonies and gave a tribute to the daywear. However, wearing a long lacy cashmere dress etched with lion’s head could translate every going out to the special occasion. Those cashmere sheaths with curving seams, accentuates the hourglass shapes and the basis of nude and black colours, made the dresses even more luxurious. Some garments obviously demonstrated accurate and meticulous work of designers. For instance, long sleeved black dress constructed from laser-cut black astrakhan with stitched crystals, which took plenty of time to make, coat witch looked as made from Ottoman brocade or, the most important, a gown embroidered with 2,200 river pearls and gold strand. Overall, the collection could expand the boundaries we had about couture, because the Valentino designers’ mastery proved that this high elegance of their magnificent clothes is best couture and sophistication.
