Barcelona’s Sónar festival, – a fusion of music, creativity, and technology, concludes its 30th-anniversary celebration by orchestrating the soundtrack for La Mercè’s grand firework display, marking the city’s largest festivity.

Scheduled for Monday, September 25, at 10 pm on Avinguda de la Reina Maria Cristina, adjacent to Fira Montjuïc, this event will showcase the festival’s three-decade journey through electronic music culture, set to a backdrop of the renowned firework display.

Sónar pays homage to its 30-year journey by featuring a diverse selection of music, spanning local and international artists who’ve graced the festival since its inception in 1994. More than 50 songs from electronic music trailblazers will be interwoven into the iconic firework show.

In a special tribute, the Piromusical of La Mercè 2023 honours the late Japanese artist Ryuichi Sakamoto. The musical medley includes hits from Rosalía, C. Tangana, Lana del Rey, Chic, Grace Jones, Bad Bunny, Nathy Peluso, and many others who have shaped the electronic music landscape.

The musical journey will include Catalan talents such as Bad Gyal, Desert, and Maria Arnal, as well as dance music luminaries like Daft Punk, The Chemical Brothers, Buraka Som Sistema, Omar Souleyman, and Aphex Twin.

Completing the mix are leading figures from the realms of disco, house, and techno, such as Todd Terje, Laurent Garnier, Miss Kittin, and Jeff Mills.

Curated by Sónar in collaboration with local producer and DJ Phran, a regular performer at the festival, this blend encompasses the essence of disco, house, techno, and more.

Don’t miss the live broadcast of the Piromusical de La Mercè on TV3 and sonar.es. This extraordinary event marks the conclusion of a successful 2023 for Sónar, which celebrated its 30th anniversary, drawing over 120,000 attendees from across the globe to Barcelona. In recognition of its contribution to electronic music and multimedia contemporary art in Barcelona, the festival was awarded the Creu de Sant Jordi this year
