How many times have you seen someone you know taking a picture in front of the mirror? And how many times have you looked so pretty you wanted to take the photo but there was anyone by your side so you had to turn the camera to yourself and try to get that angle? I can help you – hundreds of times. The thing is that this kind of photography has become extremely popular after celebrities like Rihanna, Cara Delevingne, Coco Rocha and others started to post it on Facebook or Instagram and has an honor to be mentioned in the fashion world as SELFIE. Oxford dictionary explains selfie as a photograph,  that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website.

The research in UK has showed that 51% of the UK population has taken a selfie, which means creating 35 million photos every month. 75% of 18-24 years old people have taken at least one selfie while 29% of 65+ year-old grannies did the same! Overall, 50% of men and 52% of women have done it. The interesting fact is that 34% of males state they retouch every photo compared to only 13% of females. The century of narcissistic men, huh? Moving forward, Facebook is the most popular place to share the selfie while Instagram takes the 8th place in the list. People take selfies on holiday, in their living room, on a night out, in the bedroom or at some kind of event at the time they want to remember a good, funny moment of their lives, capture a nice outfit or show a good hair day. Sounds funny? Well, it does, but it is the reality, which was created by no one but us.

Top models even reveal the secrets of a good selfie: Karlie Kloss says the camera needs to be higher, you need to have a good light and long arms, Jourdan Dunn is sure that everything is about finding the right angle and good light, Joan Smalls agrees with the light, Lindsey Wixson laughs that having long arms helps a lot at taking selfies while Meghan Collison advices to get some good lightning and make a silly face. All in all, the good light and long arms are the perfect duo for a good pic.

Fancy taking the selfie?
