The China Pavilion at the 60th International Art Exhibition (La Biennale di Venezia), organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China, presents “Atlas: Harmony in Diversity,” curated by Wang Xiaosong and Jiang Jun. It’s divided into two sections: “Collect,” showcasing imagery archives from “A Comprehensive Collection of Ancient Chinese Paintings,” and “Translate,” featuring works by seven Chinese contemporary artists.

Theme: Atlas: Harmony in Diversity

This theme focuses on inclusivity, coexistence, and shared beauty from traditional Chinese culture, symbolized by the convergence of diverse identities worldwide.

In “Collect,” digital archives of 100 Chinese paintings from “A Comprehensive Collection of Ancient Chinese Paintings” will be displayed, representing treasures scattered globally.

“Translate” features seven contemporary Chinese artists creating new works inspired by traditional painting elements, bridging tradition with modernity.

Inspired by Aby Warburg’s “Mnemosyne Atlas,” thematic plates are compiled for each artwork, connecting traditional and contemporary art and resonating with global image history.

The exhibition runs from April 20 to November 24, 2024, with a preview from April 17 to 19, at the Arsenale in Venice, Italy.
